The Joe Moss House was constructed 1915-17, in Keels, Bonavista Bay. Harry Moss began to build it around 1915 in preparation for his marriage but he died at the age of 32 before it was completed.

Joe Moss purchased the house, completed the construction and moved in shortly thereafter.

The passing of time resulted in this property falling into disrepair. When purchased by Gerry and Heather Pocius, the roof was very leaky, the exterior clapboard and trim was rotten and the interior was dilapidated due to years of dampness.

By 1988 the house was restored by Gerry and Heather. Doors and window surrounds came from a demolished house in Keels. The clapboard was all replaced. The front portion of the roof received the original style wooden shingles. The rear exterior walls were painted their original red ochre color while the rest of the house is white. It is thought that the cheap red ochre was used at the back as it was not viewed by the "passer-by". Ironically as in many outport houses, the front door was never used and visitors would end up seeing the "cheaper" side whenever they entered.

The owners have also undertaken interior restoration utilizing original furniture from Keels and elsewhere in Newfoundland.

This remarkable little house would not fall into the category of "stately". It is, however, of equal merit as many stately homes in Newfoundland as it represents an indigenous style representative of this part of outport Newfoundland.
