Belvedere Convent and Orphanage
Public Hearing on Belvedere

April 4, 2000
The Telegram

A public hearing will be held on the application of Myles-Leger Ltd. to redevelop the former Belvedere orphanage and convent property, requiring rezoning to a mix of residential and commercial from institutional. Part of the property will be developed into a 44-unit upscale townhouse cul-de-sac.

Brothers Randy and Bill Clarke have agreed to a nine-month reprieve for the orphanage and convent to find viable commercial uses for it.

But they are proposing a commercial operation, a small strip-mall type development, with food services and possibly day-care facilities, on the field of Bonaventure Avenue and Belvedere Lane.  The food services and other possible professional services would be geared towards the three neighbouring schools.
