Belvedere Convent and Orphanage

CBC Online - Web Posted May 29 2001
Belvedere development approved

St. John's, NFLD - St. John's city council has approved a proposal to redevelop the former Belvedere Orphanage property, off Bonaventure Avenue.

The plan includes apartments, townhouses and offices.

It is going ahead almost as originally proposed, despite changes requested in a commissioner's report. The council rejected that report after the developer, Myles-Leger, argued the changes would be too expensive.

Critics of the development are questioning why the city spent nearly $8,000 on a report it didn't follow.
