Belvedere Convent and Orphanage

The Sisters of Mercy will use some of the money the sale of Belvedere orphanage to help women who
spent their childhoods there.

Sister Charlotte Fitzpatrick is the Superior General of the order.

She says 500 thousand dollars will be placed in a trust.

Former residents and their children will be able to apply for grants to pursue educational or other goals.

Belvedere was closed as an orphanage 20 years ago.

Some of the former residents have sued the order, claiming they were mistreated at the orphanage.
