21 Barnes Road

Twenty One Barnes Road was built in 1900 in the 2nd Empire Style known locally as the Southcott style. This graceful home with the bonneted dormer and decorative trim had fallen on hard times. Under the direction of contractor Kevin Nolan the interior was stripped back to the sheathing board. The original staircase was straightened new spindles and a great deal of care brought it back to its original condition.

21 Barnes RoadWindows were inspected and where possible the original windows such as this staircase window was restored insuring that the original coloured glass survived. Chimneys were exposed and repaired and with care the original mantels were reinstalled. The open concept was used to enlarge the usable space in the home.

The upstairs bedrooms were also given the necessary attention to detail. A new kitchen with three windows and new cabinetwork was also part of this restoration as was the bathroom using replica period fixtures. This grand and once neglected house is now once again able to strut its style with restored, bonneted, dormer trim clapboard and new paint.
